GROVEDALE SPORTS CLUB
SOCIAL ROOMS EXTENSION UPDATE
29/8/2011

Construction: The past four weeks has seen a flurry of action with the construction of our new extended social rooms.

With the aid of club volunteers, the outer skin of the south wall was removed allowing the concreters to move in and finally pour the slabs for the social rooms viewing verandah and new bar cool room. Last week, the steel framework was erected, and it is hoped we will complete the roofing this week. Brick work will start 2nd week of September and we will also be measuring and ordering all the windows. After advice from the plumbers the tank will be moved back to the south west corner of the rooms once completed.

Weather permitting, we hope to complete the project and hold the official opening in late November or early December 2011.

Buses: A problem that’s been identified is the use of the laneway behind the rooms, by buses taking school children to and from Grovedale College. The laneway is not built to take these heavy vehicles, and City of Greater Geelong and the Grovedale Sports Club will ask the State Government (as it is their responsibility) to fix the problem and also improve this area. The Club and Council are meeting with the State Government on Monday 5th September.

Funding for project: This year’s City of Greater Geelong Council budget delivered another $130000, making a grand total of $680000 that Council has contributed in the last three years. This year’s state government budget delivered $200000, as per the new government’s 2010 election promise. Unfortunately, at this point in time, the Federal Government has not contributed any funding.

Updates: It’s the aim of the building committee to provide written monthly updates which can be viewed on the club website, and the club’s notice boards in the social & netball rooms. The Building Committee reports to the Grovedale Sports Club committee on a monthly basis. If you have any questions regarding the club rooms extension project, please contact Reece Chadwick (Building Committee Chairman) or Reg Hall (Construction Supervisor).
