New senior football coach announced
Written by grovedaletigers.com.au    Thursday, 11 September 2014 07:23    | Print |

The Grovedale Tigers FNC today announced that Craig McCaughan has been appointed as a non-playing Senior Football Coach for the next two seasons.

Craig comes to Grovedale having coached Torquay for the past three years and replaces Grant Tanner who finished with the club at the end of the home and away season.  Craig coached Torquay to finals in each of his three years at the club, and prior to this played in four premiership sides at South Barwon and is a member of the South Barwon Team of the Decade.

Grovedale President Neil Vivian made the announcement to the playing group and members tonight.  “Craig was a standout during our interview process and impressed us with his knowledge of the game.   We think that his style of coaching will be a great fit with our club and are thrilled that the club has been able to sign a coach of Craig’s calibre.”

Alongside Craig on the coaching panel will be Wayne Amos and Jarrod Young.  Wayne also comes to Grovedale from the Torquay Tigers and will step into a non-playing assistant coach role.  Jarrod will continue as a playing assistant coach.

Craig is excited about the prospect of coaching in the Geelong Football League and sees it as a natural progression in his football coaching aspirations.  “I am very excited to get the opportunity to coach such a proud club like Grovedale FNC.  I can’t wait to work closely with all the list and really develop the younger players into strong and confident senior GFL footballers”

Senior football coaching annoucement

The club announced tonight that Senior Coach Grant Tanner will be stepping down at seasons end.

Grant notified the club of his intentions this week and it was communicated to players and members tonight at training.

Grant has been with the Tigers since 2011 and during that time has helped make significant changes to our club and the playing group.

Neil Vivian said that when Grant was appointed, he outlined a number of key focus areas that needed to be addressed in order for the club to improve both on and off the field.

“During the four years that Grant has been with us, he has played a significant role in the changing culture of our club, strengthening the playing list and the development of our junior footballers.”

“Grant will continue to coach for the remainder of the 2014 season and the focus of the playing group will still be centred on winning our five remaining home and away games.”

“When Grant was appointed in 2011, he said his main aim was to leave the Grovedale Tigers in a better state than what it was in when he was first appointed. He has certainly achieved this and we are very thankful for his outstanding years of service to our club.”
