A strong local voice for sporting community groups: Coalition to invest $4.79m
Written by grovedaletigers.com.au    Wednesday, 11 August 2010 10:27    | Print |

The Liberal candidate for Corangamite, Sarah Henderson, has announced that a Federal Coalition Government will contribute almost $5 million to various sporting and community groups in Geelong, the Surf Coast and on the Bellarine Peninsula.

“This commitment of almost $5 million is a very substantial one. It will deliver major investment in local infrastructure to meet the needs of growing communities,” Ms Henderson said.

“These projects will provide a real boost to communities across Corangamite,” Ms Henderson said.

“On top of the Coalition’s $2 million commitment to the Shell Road Sporting Precinct, sporting clubs in Queenscliff, Grovedale, Torquay and Belmont are to benefit.”

Grovedale causes upset of season over St Mary's

Grovedale caused one of the biggest boilovers of the season, knocking off premiership contenders St Mary's by 14-points at West Kardinia Park on Saturday, 7 August.

St Mary's rollercoaster season continued, losing their second consecutive game against a lower ranked opponent in a result that could prove a detriment to its top three chances.

An unanswered four goal final term from Grovedale proved the difference, leaving the Saints with no answers. Grovedale booted 4.3 to three behinds in the last quarter to snatch a memorable victory, its first against the Saints since round five, 2008.

Remarkably, three of Grovedale's four wins this season have come against teams inside the top five and coach Harvey Lang said it was vindication that his game plan will work if the players show faith in it.
